How to Make a Pixie Dust Doll
The first and most important step to making pixie dust is to gather your supplies. This will include some clean sponges that are large enough to accommodate the amount of dust you plan on making. You can either purchase them already cleaned or if you have time, you can do a bit of cleanup of your own. One very nice pixie dust collector I found online has an instructional video that shows you exactly how to do this step by step. The only tools you will need for this simple process are a clean cloth, some alcohol, a soft spongy material and your mandoline.
For the next step you will want to heat up your alcohol. Once this is hot enough to vaporize the liquid, you will simply take a clean cloth and dip it into the alcohol. This will kill any bacteria and mold that might be growing inside your home or within the pixie dust pile. With the cloth in hand you will then pick up the dry materials.
Once you have all of the pixie dust on your fingers you will then pick up your mandolin. By now the pixie dust should be completely dry. To get the next step started you will want to spread the pixie dust out evenly onto your mandoline. This will help to keep the dust from getting too clumped together. Make sure the entire surface is covered.
Then you will move on to the next step which is to gently “sand” the dry material. By sanding it in small sections this will help you to ensure all of the dust particles are evenly dispersed. When you are sanding, it is important not to go too fast. The process should take about 15 minutes. After this you will repeat this process until you have completely removed all of the sanding from the material.
After you have finished all of the sanding, you can then rinse off the entire pixie dust with warm, clean water. Never pour any water onto the dust and only splash the water onto the surface to remove the dust. This is to prevent any water or moisture from entering the air chamber where the pixie dust will be formed. Allow everything to dry completely before applying the final coat of paint.
When you are finished you should be able to see an improvement on your pixie. Make sure to let your pixie dry thoroughly before adding any finishing touches such as sparkles or gems. There are many different styles of pixie that can give your home a magical touch. They are also fun to make!
