Picture a delightful blend of "Groundhog Day" and "Pretty in Pink," where a timid high school girl finds herself stuck in a time loop, reliving her first day of college repeatedly. The only way to break the curse is with her first kiss ... or so she hopes.
Andie, a girl who always seems to have the perfect words too late, is a fan of romance movies - well, all movies really - but has yet to experience her first kiss. After moving to Punxsutawney, PA for her senior year, she finds herself trapped in a never-ending cycle of her first day at the new school, living those 24 hours over and over again.
Embarking on a mission to break a curse that will end when she finds true love, Andie infiltrates various cliques in her college, from jocks to nerds to misfits, in search of the one boy who can break the spell. Along the way, she learns that people who may seem very different often share the same hopes, dreams, and struggles. And even a day that has been replayed countless times can hold unexpected connections and many happy endings.
Fairly in Punxsutawney :
- Addresses topical problems with self-discovery, navigating cliques, and ignoring stereotypes
- Is an homage to beloved 80s motion pictures, reminiscent of John Hughes’ The Breakfast Membership, Sixteen Candles, and Fairly in Pink
- Is the proper reward for birthdays and highschool or faculty commencement
- Will captivate younger grownup readers of all ages with its common coming-of-age themes about struggling to slot in, navigating the robust highschool years, first kisses, and first crushes
